This EDG 693 class has been challenging for me over the summer since I am not gifted with the use of technology. I have found that the activities have provided me with a great opportunity to enhance my computer skills by creating a blog and maintaining it. Blogging is something that I never heard of until 5 weeks ago. Now it is something that I intend to incorporate into the classroom. It should provide a great avenue to provide students with a variety of information that they can access.
Another area is from the second week with the class wikki. This activity allowed me to have a great list of sites to aid in my teaching activities and hopefully create a new way for students to be given information in the classroom. I plan to share the list with the staff.
The last few weeks of the class have presented me with opportunities to be creative with my instructions in the classroom. I feel that the Service Learning Plan is a great challenge for the students and would be an activity that demonstrates their ability to teach their peers with the community involvement. I also am excited for the opportunity to bring in outside resources such as EMT's and the YMCA for the students. I know during the semester everyone tends to get in a rut.... This would be a great change up in the classroom to give the students an opportunity to learn from someone besides a teacher. My Instructional Plan also has the community coming into the classroom for student learning. I also feel this is another way to break up the monotony of me teaching everyday and gives the students something to look forward to besides me.....
Overall I feel more confident using online resources and getting community involvement in the classroom. I know in the past I have spoken with colleagues about different strategies to enhance student learning but I have never really acted on it. This class has given me the opportunity to grow from the first day and end with several great activities for the student to participate in next year.
