For my online resource I selected PE Central. This is a traditonal website that provides a varitety of information for those primarily in the Health and Physical Education departments. This particulare site was shown to me almost ten years ago while taking undergrad classes at NKU. I use this site at different frequncies during the year.
This site has allowed me to make a perminate change to the way I teach by allowing me to stay "up to date" with fellow teachers and the information that they share at the site. A variety of lessons from K-12 are constantly posted and updated. New strategies for teaching large group activities, cooperation and skill and team activities.
The information is shared with its members and there for all to use. It also provides purchasing of equipment for the departments. It is a perfect website for those in this field.
Also the below site is a great way to get vocabulary to students....

I normal use the great videos on Health Education from Discovery Education but I wanted to try something new and explore some new avenues. Here is a short video from Teacher Tube that was made dealing with smoking and the chemicals that enter your lungs that develop lung cancer. It is not a professional video but one that does get the point accross.
-I found your video very informative. While I was growing up my father had to have 1/2 of his right lung removed partly due to smoking, so I have seen first hand the dangers of smoking.
ReplyDelete-Students at the grade level you teach are so impressionable that is why I am glad you show this video so they can see the dangers of smoking.
-Your website seems very informative. I think you learn best from other people in your field. Do you find that there is more PE/Health activities posted for elementary/ middle school than for high school on this website?
To the comment online resources keep you "up-to-date"... So true! If it weren't for my graduate course classes that allows us to peruse through all this new information, I would be at a loss. I guess I will have to remain a student forever myself.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the video... The benefit of using this clip is that the same content can be linked to other subject areas. In English, students could write a persuasive piece urging peers their age not to smoke. Their supporting details could come from what they have learned in Health class. Students will see how important and/or relevant this is to their lives as it effects pther students just like them and pops up in difft subject areas.
